Riso KZ30 Risolar. Sostenibilidad en el Africa Subsahariana

Global volatility in commodity prices especially petro products, coupled with the desire to shift from environmental unfriendly sources of energy have over the years triggered an upsurge in the search for innovative and cost effective renewable energy sources for especially energy poor sub-Saharan Africa.
Risolar South Africa and its local dealership front in Sierra Leone, Karisatu Group of Companies, plan to introduce Japanese made solar powered “Low cost-high speed” KZ-30 Duplicator into the Sierra Leone market, which event is scheduled for today, ChrisBez Business Agency said yesterday.
The Japanese high speed digital duplicator, Riso KZ30 is effectively powered by South African made Risolar Power, a tested green friendly power gadget.
Risolar’s journey into alternative energy it is said began when “energy capacity problems resulted in rolling blackouts across South Africa in 2007/8”.
This motivated Risolar to offer customers “Eco Power packs” in order “to avoid loss of productivity” the company has said.
It also, as stated by the African company, “opened our eyes to the shocking electrification rates for sub Saharan Africa, particularly in the educational sector where accessible and affordable power is a very real issue”.
KZ 30, according to its manufacturer and marketers, when run on solar energy, prints “1000 copies per day”, thereby efficiently making an average of 5 masters per day (200 prints per master) with “backup power for an extra 2 days without sun,” Risolar said yesterday in Freetown.
The printer is environment friendly; there’s no energy-intensive heater, no warm-up time. The user-programmable sleep mode puts the printer into low-power hibernation after a set period with no operation.
Sierra Leone is energy poor, but rich in renewable potentials. Sustained power supply from the national grid run on expensive and depleting petroleum products, and like most African countries, it is far away from average characterized by more power outages than power supply.
The new product can be used from the remotest location in Africa. Its power provision is designed to handle lighting needs, power a Laptop, recharge mobile phones, etc.
